Puri: The Puri district administration began a sanitization drive in the town on Monday morning after the detection of four new COVID-19 cases in the district.
Several fire services personnel were deployed for spraying disinfectants in various localities including in the vicinity of the Jagannath temple where construction work is going on for the chariots for Rath Yatra.
Earlier, Puri Collector Balwant Singh informed that two COVID-19 cases were reported from Puri town and one each from Pipili and Konark. Of these four cases, three were in quarantine centres while the fourth is an under-trial prisoner lodged in a jail. He was arrested from Kumbharpada area on May 15.
Following this, the IIC and 30 other staff of Kumbharpada police station were sent to a government quarantine centre. “Swabs of all personnel will be sent for tests tomorrow,” Puri SP said.
Puri has so far reported 29 corona cases.
