Cuttack: A day after 17 employees of a private educational institution in the city tested positive for COVID-19, a Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) official on Saturday said the samples of the infected employees will be sent to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar.
“As several students and guest faculty from other states frequently visit this educational institution, there is a possibility that they might have been infected with the new mutant strain of COVID-19,” CMC Health officer Satyabrata Sahu said.
Sahu said the samples of nine infected employees of the institutions have been collected by doctors of the Department of Microbiology of the SCB Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. They will be sent to the RMRC for test to ascertain the presence of the new strain, he added.
Stating that the samples of the remaining eight infected employees will also be sent to the RMRC for the test, Sahu said CMC has begun the contact tracing of these employees.
