New Delhi Violence, Death Toll Goes Up To 11

New Delhi: The violence that shook northeast Delhi on Monday, claimed 11 lives by Tuesday, including Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal and left nearly 150 injured. They were admitted to east Delhi’s GTB Hospital.

Four people were declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital. “Fifty per cent of those injured sustained bullet injuries,” a doctor at the hospital said. 

A violent mob torched homes, and shops in Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur Monday. Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the affected areas. The areahad been on edge since Sunday when a rally by BJP’s Kapil Mishra to counter anti-CAA protests in the area was followed by stone-pelting.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the people to maintain peace.  He also met Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation.  

All schools in northeast Delhi will remain closed tomorrow.
