Bhubaneswar: Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar (BJB) Autonomous College in Odisha’s capital is likely to get a new hostel each for boys and girls and wardens’ quarters.
According to sources, due to a large number of residential students taking admission in BJB College, the decision for the additional hostels was taken.
The state Higher Education department will spend Rs 35 crore on the boys’ hostel and Rs 29 crore on the girls’ hostel and wardens’ quarters. While the four-storey boys’ hostel will have 600 seats, the girls’ hostel will have 585 seats. The wardens’ quarters will be accommodated in the seven-storey girls’ hostel, said sources.
The work will be implemented by the Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited.
It is pertinent to mention here that the decision to set up wardens’ quarters inside the girls’ hostel comes after a girl’s alleged death by suicide in her hostel room after her roommates left for college to attend classes in July. The hostel warden had come under the purview of investigation as she was not in the hostel when the incident took place.
