Chennai: If Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade ground witnessed history on Saturday with the swearing-in of West Bengal’s first BJP government, C Joseph ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay scripted history of a different kind 24 hours later at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on a magical Sunday.
The superstar of the silver screen took oath as chief minister of Tamil Nadu from Governor Rajendra Arlekar after his two-year old Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the recent Assembly elections. The craze for actor-politician Vijay spelt doom for the M K Stalin-helmed DMK government, and ended nearly six decades of Dravidian party dominance in the southern state.
Vijay swapped his usual casual wear for a formal look, as he paired a crisp white shirt with a black blazer and black trousers.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the first ‘ally’ to support TVK after it fell 10 seats of the majority mark, was with Vijay on the dais.

Among the vociferous and cheering audience, the one who caught attention with her striking presence was Vijay’s long-time co-star and friend Trisha Krishnan.
One of the first high-profile dignitaries to arrive at the venue, Trisha was a picture of elegance and poise in a sea-blue Kanjeevaram saree which featured a golden border and subtle self-embroidery.

She paired the saree with a gold-beige brocade blouse with intricate floral patterns, and wore a diamond choker with a central ruby drop and matching studs. True to her south Indian roots, Trisha neat bun adorned fresh jasmine flowers.
She looked radiant as she waved to the crowd to acknowledge their cries of ‘Trisha, Trisha’.
Vijay and Trisha, whose on-screen pairing started with the 2004 hit film ‘Ghilli’, have been the subject of intense gossip among fans and media.
The duo, which featured in the 2023 film ‘Leo’, sparked fresh talk about their rumoured relationship following their appearance together at the wedding of producer Kalpathi Suresh’s son, two months ago.
The speculation gained traction on social media amid reports of Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam having filed for divorce.
