Puri: The popular pilgrim destination in Odisha, Puri, is likely to get a new name.
According to reports, several names have been proposed by members of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration during a meeting on Tuesday. The meeting, which was held in the presence of Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb, proposed names like ‘Shree Jagannath Puri’ or ‘Shree Jagannath Dham Puri’, among others.
The private members of the committee moved a proposal and Gajapati also supported it, stated sources. “The Chief Administrator also welcomed the decision,” said Ashok Mohapatra, SJTA member. The revenue department and government will take a decision as per law, he added.
The members of the temple managing committee were assured that the pilgrim city would be named as per the legal provisions.
Collector Samarth Verma said the proposal has been discussed and a decision will be taken by the government by considering everyone’s opinion.
