Bhubaneswar: The new car parking policy at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here, which could see the abolition of parking fee, will come into effect from April 1.
The announcement was made by the Bhubaneswar airport management through its official twitter handle on Sunday.
While indications are that the parking fee will be exempted, the airport said the salient features of the policy shall be displayed prominently in Odiya, Hindi and English for information. No dates were, however, mentioned.
In a written reply on January 2 in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha had said that under the new policy, concept of free time limit has been removed.
“As per the new policy, vehicle (except commercial vehicles going to arrivals) going to pick-up/drop lanes will not be charged any parking/entry/access fee,” he said replying to a question from Prasanna Acharya (BJD).
As per the existing policy, parking fee is charged from a vehicle which overstays beyond the free time limit of six minutes.
Parking fee has been a source of much consternation among passengers, who have complained about poor management and violation of parking guidelines by the staff manning the gates.
