New Signal System To Raise Number Of Trains In Odisha’s Titlagarh-Rayagada Section

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has commissioned Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) between Lanjigarh Road and Ambodala stations in Titlagarh-Rayagada railway section to increase the train handling capacity.

IBS is a technique which splits a block section between two adjoining stations into two with the provision of an additional signal which is remotely controlled from the station. It is provided solely to decrease the block lengths.

The effect of such a signaling arrangement is the same as providing additional manned stations. Besides increasing the number of trains that can be passed on a line, it will help increase line capacity, wagon turn around and earning of the Railways, according to an ECoR release.

Meanwhile, yard remodelling work has been completed at Ambodala yard by providing additional cross-over to siding and shunting neck in the yard. This arrangement facilitates seamless train operation with MVAA siding and eases congestion in Ambodala yard.

Shunting neck provision in the yard makes engine reversal flexible without occupying the main running lines. The arrangements aim at improving movement of raw materials and finishing products at MVAA siding of Sambalpur Division.
