Bhubaneswar: Barely hours after a girl student of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) sustained bullet injuries at Infocity in the Odisha capital, the Commissionerate Police on Monday claimed that it was a freak incident.
Briefing mediapersons, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu said that Ashish Nayak, an anti-social arrested in connection with the incident, said he had come to a rented house at Bajrang Vihar where his girlfriend was staying. During conversation, he showed her a loaded revolver. While the duo was fiddling with the revolver, it suddenly went off and a bullet pierced her thigh and hit the other leg.
“Ashish was arrested after his statement was recorded,” the DCP said, adding that he had criminal antecedents and was involved in the recent bombing incident at Nayapalli in the city.
Sources in the Kalinga Hospital said that the condition of the injured girl student is stable.
