A strong earthquake of 7.6 magnitude rocked the island nation on Monday, triggering tsunamis that reached the shore in some areas.

A four-feet-high tsunami wave was reported to have hit Wajima, a town located about 300 km from Tokyo.

The Japanese government alerted citizens a tsunami with a dangerous height of 5 metres could hit Ishikawa. There were warnings for other areas like Nigata, Nagano and Toyama prefectures.

Even more worryingly, Japan’s meteorological agency has warned that over the next 2-3 days, more earthquakes of magnitude 7 could hit the nation.
