Malkangiri: A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a garbage dump in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday morning.
According to sources, a family in Talasahi of Malkangiri town heard cries of the baby in the wee hours of Saturday. Assuming that the cry was coming their neighbour’s house, initially they ignored it.
As the cries persisted for around an hour, they were worried and enquired from their neighbour. When the neighbour said they did not have any baby, they searched the area to ascertain the source of cries.
They found cries coming from inside a gunny bag lying in a garbage dump. On further search, they found the baby girl inside the bag and informed the district child line.
Later, some members of the child line went to the village and took the baby girl under their custody. They also took her to the local hospital for checking her health. The baby’s condition was normal, said hospital sources.
