Bhubaneswar: The body of a newborn baby was found dumped near a busy junction in Odisha capital on Thursday.
As per reports, some ragpickers spotted a packed jute sack from a bush beside the National Highway 16 near Rasulgarh square in the city in the afternoon. On opening the bag, they found the still baby inside it.
Alarmed by the finding, they informed the locals who called the police.
A team from Rasulgarh police station went to the spot where a large number of people had already gathered. The police seized the sack and on opening it, found that the baby was dead. They sent the body for post-mortem.
From preliminary investigation, the police estimated that the baby was a few days old and suspected that it was stillborn.
The police have registered a case and started further investigation to identify the parents of the baby.
