Keonjhar: Tall claims of Keonjhar administration about creating awareness on superstitious practices fell flat on Saturday following the death of a newborn after allegedly being branded with a hot object to cure ailment at Pidhapokhari village of the district.
According to reports, the 18-day-old baby boy was branded by his aunt about two days ago to cure swelling around his stomach. He was brought to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition and admitted to the ICU. However, the infant succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Notably, three children have died and 15 others hospitalised due to hot iron branding in the district in the last three months.
