Newborn Girl Dies After Fall Due To Staff ‘Negligence’ At PHC In Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: In a tragic incident, a newborn girl died shortly after birth at Palsada Primary Health Centre (PHC) under Lakhanpur block in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Sunday.

According to sources, a pregnant woman from Machida village was admitted to the rural health facility in the afternoon for delivery. The child was born at the centre, but died soon after due to

alleged improper handling by on-duty healthcare personnel, which caused the infant to slip and fall to the ground. The family claimed the baby was being shifted for further care when the lapse occurred, resulting in fatal injuries.

The incident led to tension on the hospital premises, as grieving relatives demanded strict action against those responsible and raised concerns over safety protocols at the facility.

On being informed, Rengali police immediately arrived at the scene. While a detailed investigation is underway, sources indicated that a doctor along with two other medical staff members have been detained for questioning.

A postmortem examination of the infant is expected to shed light on the exact cause of death.

Further details are awaited.
