Berhampur: A newborn girl was allegedly stolen from the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Saturday.
The family members of the baby have lodged a complaint in this regard with Baidyanathpur police.
Jyoti Nahak of Ramsa Narayanpur under Kabisuryanagar block in Ganjam district and wife of Bhikari Nahak delivered the baby girl at the hospital last night. Jyoti’s mother took the child for vaccination this morning after an unidentified woman insisted her for the same. She let the woman hold the baby and went to the counter for an outdoor ticket. On returning, the woman had disappeared with the child.
“We can neither accuse the hospital authorities for negligence or the family members at this stage. We will hold a meeting with all the doctors and staff of the hospital to expedite the investigation process and ascertain the whereabouts of the woman who is suspected to fled with the baby,” Baidyanathpur police station inspector-in-charge Jayakrushna Patnaik informed.
