Balasore: A newborn baby was allegedly stolen from the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Balasore of Odisha on Thursday.
According to sources, the parents of the newborn had admitted the baby in the DHH after he suffered from jaundice two days back. The baby was undergoing treatment at special newborn care unit (SNCU) of the hospital.
As the baby’s condition deteriorated on the day, his mother went to call an on-duty doctor. On her return after a few minutes, she found her baby missing from the bed.
Despite informing the DHH authorities and desperately searching for their baby, the parents failed to find him. Later, the couple filed a complaint at Balasore police station alleging that somebody with help from the hospital staff had stolen their baby.
A team from the police station went to the DHH and started investigation to trace the baby. The couple alleged that the hospital authorities were careless about the security of the patients as its CCTV cameras were not functioning. The police were investigating all angles to ascertain the role of hospital staff in the matter.
