Daringbadi: A newborn was found with her head stuck in the pan of the toilet at Daringbadi Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
According to sources, a minor girl, who hails from Daringbadi, arrived at the hospital this morning with her mother complaining of stomach pain. The girl went to a male toilet in the indoors and delivered the baby. She then attempted to hide the newborn by placing her inside the toilet pan.
“The baby’s head was stuck in the pan. We informed police and Fire services personnel, who then broke the pan in an attempt to rescue the baby,” CHC in-charge Dr Jakesh Samantray told the media.
The newborn, however, was later declared dead.
Sources further stated that the minor girl is a second-year student at a higher secondary school. She is under treatment and her condition is stated to be stable. It is being suspected the mother-daughter duo might have planned to destroy evidence regarding the delivery.
Meanwhile, Daringbadi police have begun a probe into the incident.
