Kolkata: Newly-defected BJP leader, Arindam Bhattacharya has been allegedly receiving death threats from miscreants. The leader has also been warned of dire consequences if he doesn’t leave his Shantipur constituency in Nadia district immediately.
In two separate wall writings — one in Shantipur’s Bagdebi area and another at Bagachra — the BJP cadres saw the writings meant for the newly-defected BJP leader on Friday morning.
“Leave Shantipur in the next seven days or else you will be solely responsible for your death,” the wall writing read in Bengali.
The former TMC MLA, however, was unfazed by the wall writings and said that such threats are not new to him. “I am getting threat calls ever since I have defected to the saffron camp. It is not new to me for which I have not launched any complaints,” mentioned Bhattacharya.
Bhattacharya won from Shantipur constituency under a Congress ticket in 2016 before defecting to the ruling Trinamool Congress. He recently switched allegiance to the saffron party amid the mass exodus across the state.
Meanwhile, the local police had repainted the walls with the graffiti.
It may be recalled that Bhattacharya has been given Y-category security, after he switched over to the BJP. Other ‘turncoats’ like former West Bengal transport minister Suvendu Adhikari and former forest minister Rajib Banerjee had also been given Z-category security by the home ministry soon after joining the saffron brigade.
Also, TMC East Burdwan MP Sunil Mandal, after defecting to the BJP, was attacked by the alleged Trinamool goons on December 26 at BJP’s party office in Hastings. Later, Mandal was accorded Y-category security.
