Newly-Wed Woman Burnt To Death In Balasore, Family Alleges Murder For Dowry

Balasore: A newly-wed woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws at Kumbharpatna village under Maitapur panchayat in Balasore district on Wednesday.

The deceased identified as Urmila Sial, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital with serious burn injuries. However, she succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

After the woman’s family members came to know about the incident, they lodged a complaint at the Simulia police station alleging that she was burnt to death by her husband and his family members over dowry. In the complaint, they stated that they had given dowry to the groom’s family as per their demands. But the groom’s family continued to harass the woman repeatedly asking for more dowry.

Acting on the complaint, police detained Urmila’s husband Narahari Sial for interrogation.

Urmila and Narahari were married five months ago.
