Sundargarh: Tension prevailed at Sibanathpur village near Bonai under Tikayatpalli police limits in Sundargarh district after a newly-wed woman was found dead.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmita of Nikitamal village.
Following the incident, the locals ransacked the house of block chairman.
According to sources, she was married to one Ganesh Kishan, a relative of Tikayatpalli block chairman. The block chairman’s husband had arranged the marriage of Ganesh with Rashmita. Due to some family dispute, Rashmita, however, was staying away from her husband.
Following her death, her family members sought help from the block chairman to arrange for her last rites. When the chairman refused to help, few locals barged into her residence and ransacked the property.
Following the attack, the block chairman along with her family members fled the village, the sources added.
Meanwhile, police have detained the husband of the deceased on the basis of a complaint lodged by her family members, alleging that she was murdered. Forces have been deployed in front of the block chairman for security purposes.
