Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked Odisha government for an action taken report on allegations that kidney patients in the state are not getting adequate medical facilities for treatment.

NHRC has asked the Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department to respond within eight weeks, taking cognisance of the matter raised by the Human Rights Watch.

Secretary of the voluntary organisation Sangita Swain, had in March this year, alleged before NHRC that despite Odisha having the highest number kidney related cases in the country, the State Government was being lax in addressing the issue.
