Bhubaneswar: Intervention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been sought in the case relating to the vandalism at Ambabhona Police Station in Odisha’s Bargarh district.

A complaint in this regard has been filed by rights activist Subrat Das, who alleged that BJD MLA from Bhatli and former Minister Sushant Singh was involved in the vandalism and ransacking of the police station on Sunday, soruces said. He alleged that no action has so far been taken by the police against the BJD leader.

As the incident snowballed into a major controversy, both BJP and Congress stepped up their demand for arrest of Sushant Singh and other miscreants involved in the attack on the police station.

A large number of BJP activists took out a rally from Nishamani field in Bargarh and marched towards the SP office to stage protest led by youth leader Irasish Acharya. The protesters alleged that the police are not arresting any of the miscreants as they are BJD ‘goons’ and linked to the BJD legislator.

Singh has refuted the allegation saying that he had tried to pacify the members of the irate mob. However, he was also critical of police role that led to the vandalism happened.

The Congress also protested the attack on the police station and demanded arrest of the culprits. The party workers had staged a demonstration in front of the SP office on Tuesday.

It may be noted here that a team of police personnel raided a picnic party on Sunday following a tipoff about drug abuse. However, they could not get anything to establish the allegations and a heated argument took place between the police team and the picnickers.

Later, a large number of youths allegedly stormed the police station and resorted to vandalism at Ambabhona before leaving the place.
