Jammu: Less than eight months after the April 22 ghastly terror attack at the Baisaran Meadows in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 persons, mostly tourists from across the country, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a 1,597-page chargesheet before a special court in Jammu on Monday.
While Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Sajid Jatt has been named as a key conspirator, the outfit and its offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) have been named for their role in planning, facilitating and executing the strike. The NIA had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for Jatt.
According to officials, the chargesheet names seven, including Jatt and the LeT/TRF combine.
The chargesheet also names Jatt as an accused, as reported by India TV. The document also names the three Pak
istani terrorists actually involved in the killings. The three, identified as Faisal Jatt alias Suleman Shah, Habeeb Tahir alias Jibran, and Hamza Afghani, were killed by Indian security forces during Operation Mahadev at Dachigam, Srinagar, in July 2025.
All the accused have been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Arms Act, 1959, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. In its chargesheet, they have also been accused of waging war against India.
Through a meticulous scientific probe spanning over the last several months, the agency traced the conspiracy in the case (RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU) to Pakistan, which has been unabatedly sponsoring terrorism against India.
The two others accused in the chargesheet are Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Jothatd, who were arrested by the NIA on June 22, 2025. They have been charged with harbouring terrorists. During interrogation, the duo had disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack are Pakistanis and members of the JeM.
Further investigation in the matter is underway.
Survivors of the attack have praised the NIA for filing the chargesheet within such a small period of time.
