New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be honoured with Nigeria’s second highest national honour ‘The Grand Commander of The Order of the Niger’. Queen Elizabeth is the only foreign dignitary who has been awarded GCON in 1969.
With the announcement of the Nigerian honour, this will be the 17th such international award being conferred to PM Modi.
Currently, the Prime Minister is on a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana.
He arrived at Nigeria on Sunday at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora at Nigeria.
Recently, Dominica announced to confer its highest national honour to the Prime Minister for his contributions to the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President of Dominica Sylvanie Burton will confer the honour on PM Modi during the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana from November 19 to 21.
