Nigerian National Among 2 Held For Duping Puri Woman

Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a Nigerian national, were arrested by Odisha Crime Branch in New Delhi for allegedly duping a woman from Puri of Rs 41 lakh.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nwabueze Chukwudi Vincet (35) of Nigeria and Piyush Arya (22) of East Babarpur.

They were brought to Bhubaneswar on three-day remand for interrogation and produced before Puri Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Monday.

Incriminating articles, electronic gadgets and documents have been recovered from their possession.

According to sources, they defrauded the woman on the pretext of sending her a gift containing a huge amount of money, laptops, and ornaments.

Notably, the woman came in contact with one of the two accused through Facebook.

The woman alleged that she had deposited Rs 41 lakh on different occasions into different accounts of the fraudsters to get the gifts.

The woman realized that the accused had duped them when she received no gift. She then lodged an FIR at Puri cyber crime police station on August 21.

The Crime Branch sleuths began investigation and nabbed the duo from New Delhi.

They were produced before the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) at Dwarka Court, which allowed the Crime Branch to take them on transit remand.
