Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Monday decided to impose night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am in major cities from December 22 to January 5.
This decision comes in the wake of the new COVID-19 variant found in UK.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting where it was also decided that a 14-day institutional quarantine will be necessary for flyers from Europe and West Asian countries. International flyers from other destinations will have to undergo home quarantine.
Following in the footsteps of several countries, the Indian government on Monday banned flights to and from the UK after the British government said a highly transmissible mutant variant of the coronavirus was ‘out of control’.
Thackeray stated on social media that wearing masks will be mandatory in Maharashtra for the next six months. He also asked people to be careful during New Year celebrations.
Maharashtra on Monday reported 2,234 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths.
