Delhi: Amid rising COVID-19 cases,the Delhi government has announced night curfew from December 27.
The night curfew will be effective from Monday from 10 pm to 5 am.
The highly-transmissible variant of COVID-19 has spread to 19 states and union territories till Sunday. India’s affected tally now stands at 435.
The national capital reported 290 fresh cases of COVID, 16 per cent jump from Saturday. One person died of the virus in the last 24 hours, stated reports in NDTV.
The case positivity rate in the national capital has climbed to 0.5 per cent – a critical level – and could trigger the “yellow alert” if it remains there for two consecutive days, stated the news channel.
If the yellow alert is issued, it will lead to additional curbs. These include most activities that were resumed in phases as the second wave slowed down, will come to a grinding halt. Timings of shops and malls selling non-essential goods and services will be restrained. They will be allowed to be open from 10 am to 8 pm under the odd-even rule.
Restaurants will have to operate at 50 per cent capacity from 8 am to 10 pm and bars will be allowed to remain open from 12 noon to 10 pm at 50 per cent capacity. Cinema halls and multiplexes will be shut down along with banquet halls and auditoriums. However, hotels will remain open. These and other restrictions will come into effect if yellow alert is issued.
Eight other states have imposed restrictions and night curfew to check the spread of COVID-19.
