Bhubaneswar: After depression-induced rains for two days, Odisha may witness a gradual fall in the night temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius during the next 3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
According to weather agency, the mercury may plummet below 15 degree Celsius in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during the next seven days. The cities had recorded 17.8 degree Celsius and 15.5 degree Celsius, respectively, in the last 24 hours with Semiliguda in Koraput being the coldest at 10.8 degree Celsius.
On Tuesday (December 23), light to moderate rain may resume at a few places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada & at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kandhamal. Light to moderate rain may continue at one or two places in coastal Odisha during the subsequent 24 hours, it added.
Meanwhile, the depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal has weakened into well-marked low pressure area. It is likely to move west-southwestwards and reach southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts around December 24.
Notably, the unrelenting rains triggered by the depression had brought down the maximum day temperature across many places in the state. The day temperature in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Saturday was 8.3 degree Celsius and 7.9 degree Celsius below normal.
