Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing cold wave conditions, the mercury plummeted to 7 degree Celsius (°C) at G Udayagiri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district in the last 24 hours, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Thursday.
The night temperature hovered around 10 degree Celsius at seven other places in the state with Kirei in Sundargarh and Phulbani and Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal, at 9°C each followed by Keonjhar (10.2), Koraput (10.4), Sundargarh (10.6) and Semiliguda also in Sundargarh district at 10.7°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 15.5°C each. The mercury in the state capital is likely to drop to 14°C in the next few days, according to the weather agency’s forecast.
Dense fog also engulfed Koraput, Phulbani and Rourkela, which recorded a visibility level of 50 metres. Shallow to moderate fog was also witnessed in Koenjhar, it added.
The MeT office further said that shallow to moderate fog is likely during morning hours at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput districts during next two days.
The state is witnessing a drop in the night temperature with cold wind blowing in from the north-northwest direction and this condition is likely to continue till December 19, it added.
