Bhubaneswar: The cold wave condition in Odisha is most likely to recede with the rise in the night temperature in the next 48 hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release on Tuesday.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Charan Behera said there has been a marginal rise in the night temperature by 1-2 degree Celsius at most places in Odisha in the last 24 hours. The temperature will rise further by 2-4 degree Celsius in the subsequent 24 hours.
He further informed that there will be shallow to moderate fog in some parts of western Odisha.
Meanwhile, a release by the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University, said that the night temperature is likely to go up due to the blowing of the south-westerly wind in the lower atmosphere over Odisha from Monday.
Stating that the cold wave condition was being experienced because of the flow of the north-westerly wind from north India in the lower atmosphere towards Odisha, the release said that the flow of south-westerly wind is expected to support the increase in night temperature.
“The probability of fog in the morning might continue from January 15 due to flow of moisture from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Besides, rainfall is most likely to occur in the districts of Jajpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj from January 18,” the release added.
According to a morning bulletin of the IMD, Daringbadi, Sonepur and Angul recorded the lowest temperature at 7 degree Celsius while the mercury remained under 10 degree Celsius in Titlagarh (7.6), Bhawanipatna (9), Talcher (9.5), Sambalpur (9.8) and Keonjhar (9.4).
