Police had issued a notice to her in-laws to appear in the police station to help them in their investigation after the arrest of Nikita’s husband Lipan Sahoo. However, the absconding couple, in a letter to the police on January 16, had expressed their inability citing poor health and had sought 15 days to appear before the police.
Prior to putting up the latka on their house, police had served notice on the couple on January 8 and 9. When the couple did not abide by it, a case under Sections 498 (a) and 120 (b) of the IPC was registered against them.
Apprehending arrest, the couple had moved the High Court for anticipatory bail on January 9.
