Cuttack:  Commissionerate Police has given popular TV actor Laxmipriya Behera aka Nikita’s absconding in-laws a week’s time to appear before them in connection with the investigation surrounding her death.

The in-laws, in a letter, had sought 15 days to appear before police, citing poor health.

In the notice, IIC of Chauliaganj Police Station Ajaya Kumar Das has given Nikita’s mother-in-law Sakuntala Sahoo and father-in-law Lingaraj Sahoo till 11 AM on or before January 29. Non-compliance to this notice shall attract penal provisions of law.

Police had issued a notice to her in-laws to appear in the police station to help them in their investigation after the arrest of Nikita’s husband Lipan Sahoo. As the couple did not reply to the notice, police had put up a ‘latka’ (notice) at their house on January 12 under Section 90 of the CrPC, asking them to appear on January 19.

However, the absconding couple, in a letter to the police on January 16, had expressed their inability citing poor health and had sought 15 days to appear before the police.

Prior to putting up the latka on their house, police had served notice on the couple on January 8 and 9. When the couple did not abide by it, a case under Sections 498 (a) and 120 (b) of the IPC was registered against them.

Apprehending arrest, the couple had moved the High Court for anticipatory bail on January 9.
