Nine From Chhattisgarh Die As Bolero Rams Truck On NH-53 In Maharashtra’s Bhandara; 14 Hurt
Bhandara: Six women and three children from Chhattisgarh were killed and 14 others injured when a Bolero hit a truck on National Highway 53 in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district early on Friday, police said, PTI reported.
The Accident occurred at 3:31 am on the Lakhni-Sakoli stretch of National Highway 53, according to a statement issued by Bhandara police.
“A Bolero crashed into an Eicher truck. Nine occupants of the Bolero, six women and three children, were killed in the accident. The victims were coming to Nagpur from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur via National Highway 53,” said a police official from the spot.
Fourteen people sustained injuries in the mishap, he added.
The Chhattisgarh government has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in a post on X said, “Instructions have been issued to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the Chhattisgarh citizens who died in the road accident in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, and Rs 50,000 each to the injured”.
A team from the Chhattisgarh government has arrived in Bhandara and is working with the Maharashtra administration and local authorities to ensure medical treatment for the injured and support for the affected families, he said.
“Adequate arrangements are being ensured in Nagpur for the best possible medical care for those critically injured. The Chhattisgarh government stands with the affected families with the utmost sensitivity, and every possible assistance will be provided to them,” Sai added.
