Nine Injured As Marriage Party Van Falls Into Canal

Bhawanipatna: At least nine persons were injured when a pick-up van carrying a marriage party fell into a canal near Khairapadar in Kalahandi district early on Thursday.

The victims were rescued by locals and admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Later, two of them were shifted to Bhawanipatna hospital after their condition deteriorated.

The ill-fated vehicle was coming to Khairapadar from Tarapur when the mishap took place.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred after the driver of the van lost control over the wheels while negotiating a sharp turn. Following which, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the canal.

Police have seized the vehicle and started investigation to ascertain the exact cause behind the incident.
