New Delhi: Having exhausted all legal remedies, the four convicts in the 2012 Nirabhaya gangrape case–Mukesh Singh (32), Akshay Singh Thakur (31), Pawan Gupta (25), and Vinay Sharma (26)– will be hanged at 5.30 am on Friday.
In a last-ditch attempt, three convicts in the case had made an appeal for a freeze on the execution. It was, however, rejected by the Supreme Court, which had also dismissed the curative petition of Pawan, where he claimed that he was a juvenile at the time of the crime.
They will be hanged at Tihar Jail.
The four convicts, along with two others, had gang-raped a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012. She was then tortured with an iron rod and thrown off the vehicle. She succumbed to the injuries on December 29 at a hospital in Singapore.
