Bhubaneswar: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wore an Odisha handloom saree while presenting her fourth Union Budget in Parliament on Tuesday.
It was a brown-plum Bomkai saree with silver thread work on the border. She completed her look with a red bindi, tiny earrings, a golden chain and bangles.
Sitharaman’s sartorial choices have always displayed an array of handloom weaves from across the country and it is for the second consecutive year that opted for an ikat handloom. She had donned a dark red-coloured saree with off-white prints and golden border traditionally made in Bhoodan Pochampally, in Telangana, in 2021.
The FM has also been vocal about promoting handloom sarees. In 2019, she tweeted, “Silk or cotton, Orissa-handloom sarees are one of my favourites- the colour, the weave, the texture, just so good. (sic).”
