NITI Aayog Gets A New CEO

New Delhi: The Central government on Monday appointed BVR Subrahmanyam as the CEO of NITI Aayog.

He replaces Parameswaran lyer who will join World Bank as Executive Director.

Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir, is an acknowledged expert on internal security and the most important figure in state bureaucracy. Some even called him the ‘de facto Governor.’

A 1987-batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, Subrahmanyam served as Additional Chief Secretary (Home) in Chhattisgarh before being deputed to J & K last June, when Governor’s rule was imposed in the state following the break-up of PDP-BJP coalition government.

Earlier, the 56-year-old Subrahmanyam served as private secretary to then-PM Manmohan Singh from 2004 to 2008. A stint with World Bank followed, before he was brought back to the Prime Minister’s Office in 2012.

Subrahmanyam continued in the PMO after Narendra Modi assumed office before moving back to Chhattisgarh in 2015. Seven years later, he was called to lead the bureaucracy in J&K.
