Nagpur: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has revealed an opposition leader offered to back him if he wanted to run for the Prime Minister’s position ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
He, however, refused it, explaining that becoming a PM was not the aim of his life.
“I remember one incident — I would not name anyone — that person said if you are going to become prime minister, we will support you. But, I asked why you should support me, and why should I take your support,” Gadkari said wile speaking at a journalism awards event in Nagpur on Saturday.
Stressing his unwavering loyalty to his convictions and his party, the Union Minister said he would not compromise his principles for any position. ” I am loyal to my conviction and my organisation, and I am not going to compromise for any post because my conviction is foremost for me. I think that this conviction is the biggest strength of Indian democracy,” he added.
