Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday appointed Bihar cabinet minister and senior leader Nitin Nabin as the national working president, making him one of the youngest leaders in the party to hold the post.
“The BJP Parliamentary Board has appointed Shri Nitin Naveen, Minister, Government of Bihar, as the National Executive President of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” the order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said.
Nitin Nabin will replace JP Nadda, who got an extension in 2023 in view of the 2024 general election and was allowed to continue in the post till the appointment of a new president.
The 45-year-old BJP leader, currently handling the Public Works Department (Road
Construction) portfolio in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, is a prominent figure from the state’s Kayastha community. He is a five-time MLA from Patna’s Bankipur constituency, one of the party’s urban strongholds in Bihar, and son of late veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Sinha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin on social media, describing him as a “young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience”.
“Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hardworking Karyakarta. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as Minister in Bihar for multiple terms. He has diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded style of working. I am confident that his energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in the times to come. Congratulations to him on becoming the BJP National Working President,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X after his appointment was approved by the BJP’s parliamentary board and announced.
In BJP’s tradition, the post of working president has in the past often been a stepping stone to the position of full-time party president, reflecting its structured approach to leadership grooming, ensuring continuity, testing capability in a high-pressure environment.
