Bhubaneswar: Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut has sparked a controversy by reportedly asking people of her Mandi constituency to furnish Aadhaar cards for meeting her. Not just that, according to reports, the actor had also asked those wanting to meet her to write the purpose of visit on a paper.
Media reports claimed that Ranaut had apparently ‘implemented the rule’ as a large number of tourists and outsiders visited her office. The MP, however, had said she would always be available to meet visitors at a designated dialogue centre while she is in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
The actor-turned-politician had said as an MP, she should address national-level issues rather than local panchayat or assembly matters, a Mint report stated. During an interaction on July 11, she had reportedly urged people to bring to her only those problems that fall within her scope as an MP.
Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who was defeated by Ranaut in the last Lok Sabha elections, said that it was inappropriate on her part to ask the people of her constituency that they must bring their Aadhaar cards to meet her. Son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Vikramaditya is the PWD minister in the Congress-ruled state. “As a public representative, we must keep the doors open for all. Even people beyond the constituency, may have issues to discuss and they must be heard,” Singh told to a news channel.
Last month, Ranaut was slapped at the Chandigarh airport by a female CISF personnel, who had objections to her remarks about women protesting in solidarity with farmers in 2020.
