Bhubaneswar: In the absence of any clues to the headless woman case, the Commissionerate Police have decided to preserve the DNA fingerprint of the deceased, which would help them to ascertain her identity if any of her relatives/claimants come forward in near future.
The team investigating the case will be filing an application in the court, seeking permission for the same, sources said.
DNA fingerprinting is the process of determining an individual’s DNA characteristics. It used to establish a link between biological evidence and a suspect in a criminal investigation and paternity.
Earlier, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Uma Shankar Dash had said that they have kept the unclaimed body, which otherwise should have been disposed of with 72 hours, as they are yet to establish her identity and that of the accused.
