Bhubaneswar: Contrary to the expectation of the people of capital city, the number of wards under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not been increased for municipal elections.
The BMC has submitted a list of 67 wards that will go to polls to Urban Development department. The list has been prepared on the basis of 2011 census, according to official sources.
Though 6 panchayats on the periphery of the city have been brought under BMC limits, the number of wards has remained unchanged from the previous elections. The panchayats that have come under BMC jurisdiction are Kalarahang, Subuddhipur, Patrapada, Shankarpur, Bhagabanpur and Paikraipur.
After their inclusion with BMC, these places will not participate in the coming panchayat elections.
As per the list, 6 wards have been reserved for scheduled caste (SC) candidates, 3 for scheduled tribe (ST), 18 for OBC and 20 for women while 20 wards remain unreserved.
