No Classes On Sunday In Govt Schools From April: Odisha Education Minister

Bhubaneswar: Sunday classes for the students of Class IX to XIII in Odisha government schools might be discontinued from April.

Informing this on Wednesday, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said as courses are coming to end, we do not see the need for regular classes any more. All the courses will be covered by March-end, he added.

The Minister, who toured some of the schools in Bhubaneswar today, said a decline in attendance has also been noticed as students are preferring self-study with the exams approaching. “Considering all these points we have taken the decision,” said the Minister.

The stress will be on remedial class from April and for the revision or doubt clearance students can approach teachers in school or online, said the Minister stressing on revision.

Students’ footfall in the classes has also decreased. They are now concentrating on self study,” the Minister added.

Sunday classes were protested by the Odisha Secondary School Teachers Association who demanded extra class on Saturday for Class X students rather than extra class on Sunday. They cited that this has put mental pressure on teachers and students.
