Mumbai: Nayanthara’s lawyer has spoken in her defence after actor-producer Dhanush filed a lawsuit against the actress and her husband Vignesh Sivan for using visuals from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in their Netflix documentary.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Nayanthara’s lawyer said that his clients have responded to the legal notice sent by Dhanush.
The lawyer claimed that the visuals used in the documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale’ were from the actress’ personal library and thus no copyright laws have been violated by his clients.
“Our response is that there is no infringement or violation because what has been utilised by us in the docu series is not part of behind-the-scenes (from the film). The same is part of personal library, therefore this is not infringement,” said Managing Partner of Lex Chambers Rahul Dhawan, who is representing Nayanthara and Vignesh and their production house Rowdy Pictures Private Limited.
Dhawan shared that the next hearing in the case, in the Madras High Court, will be on Monday.
The feud between Nayanthara and Dhanush started after the latter slapped a legal notice of Rs 10 crore against the actress for using a 3-second video clip in her Netflix documentary.
The legal notice read as, “Advice your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film NAANUM ROWDY DHAAN by using the same in your client’s documentary named NAYANTHARA BEYOND THE FAIRYTALE within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs. 10 crores against your client and Netflix India.”
Following this, Nayanthara took to her Instagram handle to share an open letter slamming Dhanush for not giving her permission for using the video clips and slapping a legal notice against her.
