Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday announced that there is no cyclone threat to Odisha.

Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Head of Cyclone Warning Division of IMD, said the depression has turned into a deep depression and is likely to weaken in the days to come. “There is no chance of the deep depression further intensifying and there is no possibility of a cyclone,” he said.

The deep depression is moving northwest and centered some 30 kms from Kolkata in the evening, he added.

However, under its impact, several parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand would experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till October 10, Met office sources said.

Strong surface wind with speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would prevail along and off North Odisha and West Bengal coasts during the next 24 hours. As the sea condition is likely to be rough, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea, the sources added.
