Puri: Darshan of the sibling deities at Jagannath Temple in Odisha Puri town will be restricted for four hours on Wednesday for the Banakalagi ritual, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) informed on Tuesday.
“The Banakalagi Niti of Lord Jagannath will be conducted on the 7th day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month on August 23, for which general darshan will be closed for four hours from 6 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday. The devotees can have darshan after 10 pm.”
The facial ritual of the sibling deities had resumed on August 9 after a gap of over one month due to a conflict between the servitors and SJTA on the date it should be conducted. The Temple Managing Committee meeting finally decided that the ritual would be conducted twice a month on Wednesdays.
Banakalagi is performed using ‘kasturi’, ‘harital’, ‘karpura’, ‘kesar’, ‘kalasankha’ and ‘dhalasankha’.
