Puri: Jagannath Temple in Puri will remain out of bounds for visitors for four hours from 2 pm on Thursday for a special ritual on Chitalagi Amavasya or Chitau Amavasya.
Chitalagi Amavasya is observed on the new moon day of the lunar month of Shravana. A special type of rice cake called ‘chitau’ is offered to Lord Jagannath at the temple. The forehead of the Lord is also adorned with a golden mark called ‘Chitta’, which was removed when the sibling deities went on their annual sojourn to Gundicha Temple.
