Bhubaneswar: Somalika Dash, the rumoured girlfriend of BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das, met Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jayanarayan Mishra here on Sunday and requested him to raise her case in Odisha Assembly.
“I have urged the LoP to raise the issue in Odisha Assembly as no action is being taken against the lawmaker despite all evidence,” she said after meeting Mishra, who assured her of all necessary help.
Following a directive from the Orissa High Court earlier this month, police had registered a case against the MLA under Section 376 (punishment for rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without women’s consent), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
“It took them 9 months to register a case against him and that too only after the HC intervened. It has been 21 days since then and the lawmaker is still roaming around freely,” Somalika said.
Taking a sly dig at the BJD-led government, she said whosoever is in the party is assumed to be ‘clean’ and no action is taken against them. “I have no faith in the ruling party. So, I approached the Leader of Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra and narrated my ordeal,” she added.
On Saturday, state units of Congress and BJP staged separate demonstrations in Jagatsinghpur, demanding the immediate arrest of Das.
Notably, the LoP had asserted that he would expose the mastermind behind the murder of health minister Naba Kishore Das, in the next session of the assembly which will commence on February 21. He further said that he would also raise crime against women and law and order situation in the state.
