Cuttack: To ensure safe and pollution free Ravan Podi in Cuttack, Orissa High Court has ruled against firecracker competition, a major highlight of Dussehra in the Silver City.
To make the event more environment friendly, the Advocate Committee has proposed the use of colour crackers instead of regular (polluting and noise-making) crackers, said sources.
Ravan Podi is one of the most important events of Dussehra celebrated with great pomp and show in the Silver City. The event draws large crowd from different parts of Cuttack district and Capital City Bhubaneswar.
The HC has also directed Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and local administration to make arrangements at Bali Jatra ground for Ravan Podi by October 10, sources added.
Besides, Cuttack DCP has been directed to ensure seamless traffic management for the event.
The HC has passed the directives during the hearing of an intervention petition filed by the ‘Sarbadharma Sadharan Parisad’, sources added.
