Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday said it will not allow ganja cultivation in the state.
Excise commissioner-cum-secretary, Sushil Kumar Lohani told this to reporters after a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here.
Lohani said pharmaceutical companies usually seek permission to cultivate ganja for its medicinal properties. But the state Law department has rejected this proposal and therefore ganja cultivation won’t be allowed in Odisha, he added.
Notably, several organisations had protested against the proposal by the Excise department for ganja cultivation in the state following a recent letter by the joint secretary, Excise, SBK Pradhan to the Excise superintendents.
